Jeanne Cortiel
I was born in Salzburg, Austria, almost 30 years ago (sigh), 2 years
before 1968. So I'm sort of in between as generations go: I'm
neither a baby boomer nor really generation X. I survived puberty in Salzburg and got
through
the most part of my twenties in Graz as a student of English, German,
and (mostly) life. Two years ago I
deserted Austria and got my MA in American Studies in Dresden,
Germany last September. Currently I'm teaching at the University of
Dortmund and starting my PhD Dissertation on feminist theology in
the United States (from a cultural studies perspective). I am also
trying to finish a book on Joanna Russ, which will come out in 1997.
My main areas of interest are lesbian studies, feminist science
fiction (and intersections/connections between the two), as well as
women's writing and feminist theory in general. Contact me at CORTIEL@ mail.fb15.uni-dortmund.de .

I recently completed my M.A. in English at the University of
Connecticut, concentrating in feminist theory, queer theory and twentieth-century
American literature. My thesis is entitled From Woman to Human: A Radical
Feminist Reading of Joanna Russ's The Female Man and Extra(Ordinary)
People. I work at the Homer Babbidge
Library at the University of Connecticut and am enrolled in the M.L.S.-I.S.D.P. - that's Master of Library Science Independent Study Degree Program - at Syracuse University. I
would be happy to correspond with other Russ readers; contact me at muskrat@neca.com. I met Jeanne Cortiel via
the Internet through Laura Quilter - don't forget to check out Laura's Feminist Science Fiction,
Fantasy & Utopia site.
